‘Gijgah’ applies for Fajr Film Fest

Iranian movie ‘Gijgah’ (Temple) applies for the 39th Fajr Film Festival in Tehran.

Iranian movie ‘Gijgah’ (Temple) has applied for the 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Tehran.

The filmmakers of ‘Gijgah’ filled out the entry form, media reports said.

‘Gijgah’ is the feature film debut of Iranian director Adel Tabrizi.

The movie’s cast members include stars such as Hamed Behdad, Jamshid Hashempour, Baran Kosari, Soroush Sehhat, Farhad Ayeesh, Amir-Hossein Rostami, and Bijan Banafsheh-Khah.

“‘Gijgah’ is not a nostalgic film. It is about a mood that doesn’t exist anymore,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Earlier this month, Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaeenejad, the head of the FFF, announced that the 2021 edition of the event will be held without public screenings and will only see jurors watching and judging the participating movies.

Tabatabaeenejad noted that the festival may hold physical screenings for audiences, if the coronavirus situation improves.

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
